The province of Pesaro e Urbino is the most northern one of the region Marche. It is situated between Romagna, Tuscany and Umbria and perfect for all those travelers who love the shores of the sea with its long, sandy beaches but also the fresh, green landscape of the mountains.
Along the coast there are a few blue flags guaranteeing well preserved beaches with high quality services: Gabicce Mare, Pesaro and Fano. The inner part of the area offers hilly landscapes flowing to the higher mountains of the Apennines. There are many protected areas, like the gorge of Furlo. Here still the eagle is the king of the sky and many services in the National Park of Sasso Simone e Simoncello are perfect for family outdoor days. Small villages of the medieval times are like hidden gems in between the mountains. Guides are available and a naturalistic walk on a horse back is one of the most beautiful experiences.
In this beauty between sea and mountains you will find many historical places of the medieval with interesting architecture, beautiful villas, amazing libraries, enchanting abbeys and castles and much more.
Just to give a hint of what is expecting you: Urbino, UNESCO heritage and center of art and architecture of the Renaissance; Gradara, old medieval town and place of the famous tale Paolo and Francesca of Dante; Fano, Roman city and situated at the road Flaminia. Here you will find a lot of military architecture. For example by Francesco di Giorgio Martini, a military engineer and painter during the 15th century. To see his works you can go to Mondavio, Sassocorvaro, Cagli and Montecerignone.
Tourist will find a rich offer between culture, art, beaches, and nature for hiking, mountain-biking or horse-riding. As well as many possibilities to taste the excellent cuisine of the region. A 'must try' is the truffle of Acqualagna, the tasty olive oil of Cartoceto, cheese like Casciotta di Urbino DOP which appreciated already by Michelangelo, fresh, tasty fish from the sea and great wines.
Pesaro, home of Gioachino Rossini, every year organizes in honor of the composer the international Rossini Opera Festival.
Every town or village from spring to fall organizes traditional festivals, most of the time with a gastronomical theme. A great example of national importance is the truffle festival during fall at Acqualagna and S.Angelo in Vado.
Most of the excellent hotels are along the 40 km/25 miles of coast between Gabicce Mare a Marotta, in the province there are more than 300 hospitalities. You find more than 200 agritourism or farm stays, 80

Many reasons to come and experience the Marche called also “la provincia bella” (the beautiful region) and compared to Tuscany for its beauty and possibilities.
The region Marche offers a rich variety of different landscapes like the high Sibillini mountains and the Riviera of the Conero with long beaches. And that gives place to a great variety of different products as well, handcrafts and gastronomic.
The agriculture of wheat is famous since antiquity. And still today agriculture is an important income for many farmers who are often specialized in organic wheat and spelt. Legumes are for example lentils from the Sibillini mountains or of Castelluccio di Norcia IGP and the fava or broad bean Fratterosa. Well known are also the potatoes of the higher Marche and the red potatoes of Sompiano.
The people of the Marche have been a folk of shepherds as well and they still have old traditions for diary products. Cheese of the region were much appreciated by famous people like Michelangelo who loved the Casciotta d'Urbino DOP. Famous also the “formaggio di fossa” which has a particular taste because of its ripening process is in a pothole of limestone.
There is a special type of cow in the Marche that gives genuine and lean meat for typical meat and cold meat products. Therefor we have a lot of real quality meat DOC (originally controlled denomination). You can find in the cold meat section for example salame ciauscolo, coppa, finocchiella, different saucages, salame of Fabriano, porchetta, Prosciutto of Carpegna DOP and many more.
The Marche, especially around Acqualagna, is an area famous for its great truffles, white and black.
Here are some typical meals to try out during your holidays in the Marche.
Antipasti: the olives all'ascolana, different kinds of cheese and the above mentioned cold meat.
As first course you will find vincisgrassi, cappelletti alla pesarese, passatelli all'urbinate, lumachelle all'urbinate, tagliatelle al tartufo, cresc'tajat.
Typical fish: fish soups
And at the end of the meal a dessert: zuppa inglese, bostrengo and migliaccio.
In the Marche there is a great number of DOCG and DOC and excellent typical wine.
The DOC: Bianchello del Metauro, Colli Maceratesi, Colli Pesaresi, Esino, Falerio, I Terreni di Sanseverino, Lacrima di Morro o Lacrima di Morro d'Alba, Pergola, Rosso Conero, Rosso Piceno o Piceno, San Ginesio, Serrapetrona, Terre di Offida, Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, Verdicchio di Matelica.
As dessert wine you find Vernaccia di Serrapetrona or the Vino Cotto, Vin Santo, Vino Visciolato and exellent liquors like il Mistrà d'Anice.
In the region you also find great olive oils like the Olio di Cartoceto DOP.
Here in the Marche you will find a lot of handcrafts. The region is famous for its international production of shoes, bags, artistic subjects, ceramics, hats, music instruments and much more. In particular around Pesaro and Urbania you can find jewelery.
